Art, Literature, and Music
I help creative individuals navigate the complex legal issues in bringing their passions to the public through their visual, verbal, editorial, and musical talents. This area, otherwise known as “Entertainment Law” is a overlapping combination of copyright, trademark, contract, privacy, publicity, and Constitutional 1st Amendment issues.
Hello Kevin
I am on the board of Fort Collins Public Access Network, FCPAN, soon to be FC Public Media. Several years ago you came to one of our board meetings and talked about copyright.
I am emailing to see if you do any pro bono work for non profits, or if you could advise us where to get some advise on copyright, specifically about music.
We would like to show bands playing on our tv channel. If we get permission from them to air music they created we assume that is ok, but what to do when they perform copyrighted music. We are part of the City’s public access channel set up and the city does pay ASCAP and BMI – would that cover us?
Anyhow, we need some clarity on this issue.
Can you help us or point us in the right direction to find out.
Thank you
