The Business of Creativity

So, I’ll probably not be posting very often for a little while.  I’m committed to writing a book on the business of creativity that discusses the spiritual motivations to create, the creative process itself, the business of making a living being creative, and the legal issues that should be part of the equation in today’s society.  Spirit, Creativity, Business, Law.  I’ll be wearing all the hats I have, and hopefully writing a book that will reflect my somewhat unique set of skills and interests into a book that really helps people manifest their divinity through creative business.  My goal is to have it drafted by my 40th birthday this August.  I’d better get back to work.

2008 National Professional Visual Artist Study

Dear Professional Visual Artist or Arts Community Supporter, (I’m terribly sorry about the impersonal greeting…)

I’m working with Alyson Stanfield, leading art business coach and author of the new book I’d Rather Be In The Studio: The Artist’s No-Excuse Guide to Self-Promotion on a fun project – an international study of the state of the professional art business from the view of the artist.

We’re conducting an on-line study so all you need to do is click the link below and spend about 5 minutes completing the survey. Your information is confidential and we will only use your OPTIONAL contact information to notify you if you win either a FREE copy of Alyson’s book (several will be given), or 2 free hours of my legal consulting time.

Click here to participate in the study.

We would love your participation in this exciting project and encourage you to forward this message on to your professional artist friends. The more artists that respond, the better (and more interesting) the data.

My sincere thanks in advance for your participation.

February gone

Wow, February came and went without a blog post. Yes, it was a busy month. Several new clients started working with the firm. The first CSU “Innovation Month” set of programs were a great success and I was happy to give a couple of presentations – one on copyright and one on trademark.

We also conducted some major project including a national study of prospective law students through my higher-education marketing firm Wooden Pencil.

Moving up the mountain is proving to be a good change. I’ve got an office set up in the house and can now block some quality time to actually complete the work people are hiring me to do. Sometimes it feels like I run from meeting to meeting, so having a block of “work time” almost every day seems to be making things work more efficiently.

This week I give presentations on copyright and trademark in two venues. See the events calendar for details.
